AWS & Amazon Bedrock

Model choice becomes a business platform.

Cloud foundation

We build business platforms on AWS that combine foundation models available through Amazon Bedrock with an organisation's knowledge, tools and workflows.

The foundation

Amazon Bedrock is part of the foundation.

The work

The product experience and systems engineering are Smriti's work.

Platform layers

Five layers. One of them is Amazon Bedrock.

Choosing a model is only the start. Between the business interface and the selected models sit the workflow logic, the approved data and tools, and the evaluation that shows whether the platform is doing its job.

Amazon Bedrock gives access to foundation models from multiple AI companies through one managed service. The other layers are engineered by us or integrated from the organisation's own systems, with permission.

Supporting services

Used only where a project requires them.

Amazon Bedrock includes managed services for retrieval, safeguards and running agents. We use them when they fit the task, and name them on a project only when they are used.
  • Amazon Bedrock Knowledge Bases

    What it provides

Managed retrieval over an organisation's data.

    We consider it when

Documents must be searched and cited, and a managed retrieval service suits the data and how it is permissioned.

    What we still engineer

Which sources are included, who may see what, how answers cite their sources — and checks on retrieval quality.

  • Amazon Bedrock Guardrails

    What it provides

Configurable safeguards: content filters, denied topics, sensitive-information filters and grounding checks.

    We consider it when

An application needs safeguards that can be configured once and applied consistently.

    What we still engineer

The policy behind the settings, tests that the safeguards behave as intended, and what the application does when one is triggered.

  • Amazon Bedrock AgentCore

    What it provides

A platform for deploying and operating agents built with any framework and model.

    We consider it when

Agents need a managed runtime and operational tooling on AWS.

    What we still engineer

The agents themselves: their tools, rules, hand-offs to people and evaluation.

Engineering, not configuration

What Amazon Bedrock does not decide for you.

A managed model service removes a great deal of undifferentiated work. It does not, by itself, provide every application requirement, permission boundary or scalability guarantee. Those are engineered.
Application requirements
Amazon Bedrock providesAccess to foundation models through one managed service.
Smriti engineersWhat the application must do, for whom, and how a good result is recognised.
Permission boundaries
Amazon Bedrock providesAWS identity and access controls for the service itself.
Smriti engineersWhich data and tools each user and each agent may reach — enforced in the application and its integrations.
Scalability
Amazon Bedrock providesManaged model inference, within the quotas of the account and Region.
Smriti engineersApplication architecture, behaviour under load, cost per task and graceful handling when limits are reached.
Evaluation
Amazon Bedrock providesA choice of models to evaluate.
Smriti engineersTask-specific test sets, comparison across candidate models and checks before every significant change.

Model selection

We compare candidate models against the task.

Amazon Bedrock offers foundation models from multiple AI companies. That choice is only useful when it is made against the work the platform must do, rather than a general benchmark.

  1. 01Define the task and an agreed test set drawn from real work.
  2. 02Shortlist foundation models available through Amazon Bedrock in the project's AWS Region.
  3. 03Run the same evaluation on each candidate: quality, response time, cost per task and behaviour with safeguards.
  4. 04Choose, with the trade-offs written down.
  5. 05Re-run the comparison when models or requirements change.

Capability overview

Amazon Bedrock-based business platforms

Business platforms on AWS that combine foundation models available through Amazon Bedrock with an organisation's knowledge, tools and workflows.

A capability overview describes what we engineer in this kind of project. It is not a case study: it names no customers and claims no results.
